I overheard my five-year-old daughter say to her nanny,
“You shouldn’t tell me what to do… I want to tell myself what to do, and I want to focus on myself. You too focus on yourself.”
It made me pause.
What does a child know about self-focus?
Was it just words… or something deeper?
Then it struck me
sometimes, truth speaks through innocence.
As adults, we give so much of ourselves.
We try to fix others, guide others, please others,
and sometimes even control what others should do.
But how often do we turn inward and truly focus on ourselves?
Self-focus is not selfishness.
It is awareness.
It is taking responsibility for your growth,
your healing, your choices, and your peace.
It is understanding that you cannot control others,
but you can lead yourself.
It is choosing to become better,
instead of trying to make everyone else better.
Sometimes we are exhausted
not because life is too hard,
but because we are carrying what was never ours to carry.
That little girl reminded me —
focus on your lane.
Grow yourself. Heal yourself. Lead yourself.
Because when you become whole within,
you show up better for everyone else.
Maybe she didn’t fully understand it…
but perhaps, she said exactly what we all needed to hear.
